5 Basic Rules of Web Page Design and Layout

5 Basic Rules of Web Page Design and Layout

Yasir Khurshid
Blog  Web Development

Web designing is one of the most demanding careers of this era. As desktop applications are almost on the verge of termination, every organization needs a flawless website for them. Every organization needs both web designers and web developers who are well aware of the basic rules of web page design and layout. Both these fields may sound familiar, but they are different.

Web designers have to work on the web page design and layout which works as the blueprint for the website. To create the best web page layout design, the designer must have compact knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create mockups along with other UX/UI (user experience and interface) tools.

Tips for Web Page Design and Layout

The most important rules that a web designer must keep in mind to create a professional web page design and layout are as follows:

1. Simple to Read

One of the most important factors that a web designer must keep in mind while designing a website is that the text on the website must be simple and easy to read. Simple to read the content means readable and understandable content. The text must not be itchy to the human eye. The size of the text must not be too big or too small. The background and the font of the website must be adjusted in a way that makes it comfortable for the user to read.

2. Feasible Map Tracking

Feasible Map Tracking means easy to navigate anything the user is searching for. The visitor or user of the website must be able to easily distinguish between hyperlinks, headings, unvisited, and visited links. The effects and tabs used on the website must be easy to understand rather than being fancy or loud. The information on the website must be to the point or there is a slight chance that the user will click off from the website.

3. Easy to Find

A necessary feature that makes a website successful is its ability to be easily found by the users. The promotion of the website is a key factor to make it popular worldwide. Search engine optimization (SEO) is required for online promotion. For offline promotion, use posters, printed ads, newspapers, and radio. The ranking of the website must be high in order to make it easy to find by users.

4. Consistency in Design

The website must be consistent in the design. Consistent in the header, footers, all graphic images and elements, typefaces, etc. It must appear the same on all types of devices like android, apple, desktops, and MacIntosh. The flow of information must be organized. Color-coded web pages require consistency.

5. Quick Website Downloading

It is a study that most of the users lose their interest in a particular website due to the slow downloading of the content of the website. The actual download time that is concerned here is machine speed. Code on a web document that can affect machine speed includes:

  • Browser cache
  • DNS searching
  • Redirecting
  • High Traffic
  • Images using CSS
  • CSS @import
  • Asynchronous resources

The designer must keep in mind these factors to make the website work efficiently. Creativity is significant for a web designer to design an impeccable website.
